SINGAPORE WITH BELLA BRAY
NAME: Bella Bray
WHAT YOU DO: I never really know how to answer this. I model a bit. I travel a lot. I’m currently producing a style story in Singapore!
STAR SIGN: Aries
LIVING: Currently in Melbourne. Though I’m regularly in Singapore or back in Sydney
LOCATION: Singapore
SLEEP
Tiong Bahru!!! I am slightly biased as this is my old neighborhood, however, I think it’s one of the coolest in Singapore. Complete with the cutest heritage apartments, a famous savory porridge store (Ah Chiang’s Porridge), my favourite bookstore (Books Actually), Boutique Yoga Studios and more great cafes than you can count!
If you are looking at staying in a hotel, check out the Park Royal on Pickering. It is covered in greenery and reminds me of something out of Avatar. If you don’t end up staying there I still recommend trying to sneak up to the garden on the 5th Floor for an amazing view over the city.
Another great area is Kampong Glam (named after the Gelam tree), a really cool spot filled with quirky bars and late-night eateries. It is a super close walk to the madness Arab St. and Little India.
EAT
Eating is pretty much a national hobby in Singapore so it is hard to name just a few however these are some of my all-time favourites!
Samy’s Curry at Dempsey Hill My favourite Indian served on a banana leaf. Get the crispy cauliflower, Gobi 65.
2am Dessert Bar by Janice Wong Janice is like a mix between a chef and a scientist! Everything she does is incredible however the Chocolate H20 is my go-to.
Lau Pa Sat Satay Stalls This is a must on your to-do list when in Singapore! There’s a little side street near Telok Ayer hawker that closes at night and turns into a mini night market of satay stalls.
24hr Hot Pot Train
Like sushi train but for hot pot!
Heaven’s Indian Curry @ Ghim Moh Market The best Masala Dosa I have ever eaten!
Tiong Bahru Hawker
One of the most popular hawkers in Singapore. Try Hainanese Chicken Rice, Popiah and Chwee Kueh!!
Afterglow by Anglo Vegan wholefood yumminess!
Annnnd just about anywhere late-night eatery that makes fresh Roti prata + Teh Tarik.
DO
Gillman Barracks A contemporary art precinct filled with a bunch of really great independent galleries. The best thing is that most of the shows are free as well!
Get a cupping treatment and massage at a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic. There are places all over the city, and everyone I have seen has been amazing!
Go to Atlas Bar for a drink. It’s fancy and you’ll need to book beforehand, but the interiors are super cool.
The Flower Domes at Gardens by the Bay. It’s pretty touristy but for good reason!
Projector Gallery This is my favourite cinema in SG and plays a bunch of indie films from across the region and the rest of the world!
Little India Super colourful streets filled with jewelry, spice stores, and so much good food! If you want to be overwhelmed check out the 24hr Indian department store, Mustafa. It stocks pretty much everything you have ever needed.
SHOP
Dover Street Market at Dempsey Hill
If you’re feeling fancy!
Bugis Street Complex My go-to spot for cheap shoes, and fun accessories. Make sure you bypass the ground floor which is full of souvenirs though all the best stuff is upstairs.
Gentle Monster
Their sunglasses are weird and amazing, and the store itself is like a strange museum.
Orchard Gateway Great for independent boutiques plus they have solo karaoke booths when you want a break from shopping.
Design Orchard
On Orchard Road, this store only sells apparel from Singaporean designers.
Kinokuniya Bookshop It covers a whole floor of Takashimaya mall and I can easily spend half a day in there accumulating books I just have to buy.
PACK
It’s always super humid, so anything light and summery. Though I always make sure I pack a sweater because there’s air-con literally everywhere you go!
