NEW YORK WITH ANN DEUTSCH

NAME: Anna Deutsch WHAT YOU DO: Editorial Director, Barneys New York STAR SIGN: Taurus SOCIALS: @anna_deutsch LIVING: Greenpoint, Brooklyn LOCATION: Upstate, New York

SLEEP

At least twice a year I head to the Catskills to stay at Brushland Eating House, which is the very best restaurant with the cutest Airbnb spaces above and behind it. The owners also have a cabin called Owl’s Nest nearby.

Bovina is a bucolic little spot in the Catskills. I’ve been there in the glow of a summer afternoon and sipped wine while poppies have literally bloomed around me. I’ve been there on the greyest of evenings and watched a storm pass over the surrounding mountains. I’ve woken up there to the first snow of the season.

Whatever the time of year and whoever I am with, it’s always magic.

I also love going to Hudson and staying in an Airbnb - it’s easy because you can take the train up there and it’s basically a rural Brooklyn in terms of the amazing dining options and shopping.

I am actually quite skilled at finding great Airbnb’s, so sometimes when I find a good one, that dictates where we will be headed.

For a bit of a splurge, Scribners Catskills Lodge is a revamped motel at the base of Hunter Mountain, and it is just beautiful. It’s also a great location for exploring areas like Tannersville, Germantown, Hudson, and more.

EAT

In the Catskills, I love Brushland Eating House and Table on 10.

Other Upstate faves include Lil Deb’s Oasis in Hudson, Gaskins in Germantown, Mama’s Boy Burgers in Tannersville, Prospect at Scribners, and Deer Mountain Inn for a special or romantic meal. I also love stopping in for a wine at Brunette in Kingston - it’s the cutest with the best selection of funky wines.

DO

I love, love, love alpacas and make a point to visit them when I go Upstate! I love Buckbrook Alpacas, Crimson Leaf Alpaca Farm.

Otherwise, it’s mostly seeking out random shops, new hikes, and diners.

SHOP

In Hudson I love this homewares store called Minna, and I always pop into see Behida Dolic who is the most talented, gorgeous woman who makes hats and clothes.

I love browsing the quirky stores in Tannersville, like Bones and Stones and the thrift stores.

My boyfriend and I always buy tie dye tees and socks in Woodstock. And lastly, Lovefield Vintage is a great store in Kingston, where I always end up walking away with something special.

PACK

All I ever need are my Blundstone boots, vintage Levi’s, sweaters, tees, and a swimsuit for summer swimming holes.
