Once a city that ruled the world, there are few places that have remained as captivating and intact over the course of history as Rome has.
Whilst we still descend for the Roman classics such as the Pantheon, recreating the Lizzie McGuire Movie and the Cacio e Pepe, it's easy to get caught up in the tourist traps laid around this popular destination.
So here is our running list of some of our favourite non-touristy but still postcard-worthy places in the ancient city of Rome.

ANTICO CAFFE GRECO Established in 1760, Caffè Greco is situated just off the Piazza di Spagna at the foot of the Spanish Steps and for over 200 years has been a meeting place for artists, thinkers and writers.
Liszt, Bizet, Wagner, Goethe, Casanova, Stendhal and even Buffalo Bill have passed by. Gogol wrote a novel here; in Passini and Guttuso he inspired a painting. Rumour also has it that if a cardinal sits at the Greco that he becomes pope. Via dei Condotti, 86, 00187 Roma RM

The legendary birthplace of the classic pasta dish, Amatriciana Bucatini. Born as a trattoria in the year Rome annexed from the Kingdom of Italy and quickly became an artistic hub in 1880 when the Teatro Costanzi was inaugurated opposite. Later becomming the Royal Opera Theater in 1928.

SCHOSTAL ROME
There is nothing Italy does better than a store that specialises in something you didn't realise needed attention. Opened in 1870, Schostal specialises in pajamas, shirting, socks and other classic pieces that are all handmade in Italy. A once in a lifestyle experience that will have you walking away with the best shirting you have ever owned.

At the foot of the Spanish steps, the Keats Shelley Memorial House is dedicate to the Romantic British poets who were so in love with the city of Rome. Keats tragically died here in 1821, aged just 25 on the Piazza di Spagna. The museum is a chain of perfectly preserved bedrooms with a series of books that you can purchase.

For all the sexy renaissance energy, Musei Capitolini is a haven for one of the many things Romans do best. Art. There are many exhibitions running here at any one time so it's best to book your tickets in advance.
