NAME: Katie Muirhead WHAT YOU DO: Model STAR SIGN: Gemini SOCIALS: @katie_muirhead LIVING: I live in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve lived here for the last four years (mostly South Williamsburg/ Bushwick) and in a year when we’re not really travelling, I’ve been so grateful for my local area.

I live at the intersection of Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy and Bushwick. I love this area as I can go in any direction and find myself in a new neighbourhood within 15 mins. Brooklyn is great for walking and biking as it’s so flat and on a grid. I’ve admittedly never lived in Manhattan, but I adore Brooklyn as it feels so local and homey.

COFFEE

La Cantine off the Jefferson L has amazing cold brew (kind of chocolatey?) and an insane banana bread (more like a cake).

I like to get take-out to eat in Maria Hernandez Park which is a few blocks away. Their sandwiches are also insane.

Brooklyn Ball Factory in East Williamsburg is a Japanese cafe with the best matcha in the neighbourhood.

Upstate Stock in North Williamsburg is a cute store/ cafe. It sells clothing and homewares from upstate NY brands, and is on a great corner to sit and people watch.

EAT

Win Son is an amazing Taiwanese restaurant on Graham (great for dinner), but their recently opened bakery across the street is the spot to hit during the day. Get the scallion pancake egg & cheese.

Leo on Havemeyer St is a great new sourdough pizza spot with fab natural wine.

DRINK

Cerverceria Havemeyer in South Williamsburg has been my go-to happy hour margarita spot since I moved to New York. Order a regular marg (with salt) and fish tacos. Havemeyer is my favourite street to people watch, I love to sit here all afternoon.

The Lot Radio in Williamsburg is just a fenced space in the middle of an intersection, but one of my favourite spots for a can of cider (and they often have live radio sets). They also do coffee if you’re passing earlier in the day.

DO

Walk the Williamsburg Bridge- it’s so much nicer than the Brooklyn Bridge, and connects Williamsburg and the LES (much more convenient neighbourhoods to explore). It’s also pink.

If you feel comfortable driving a moped, ride a Revel scooter. You can sign up with your Australian license, they have helmets in the back, and it makes getting around Brooklyn so much easier.

SHOP

L Train Vintage: there are a few of these, but my favourite is the one off the Morgan L train called Urban Jungle. It isn’t curated, but it is super cheap. Some of my best jackets are from the mens’ racks here.

Friends NYC: another store off the Morgan stop that mixes both curated vintage and new  clothes & trinkets. It’s a super fun store to peruse.

10 ft Single and Stella Dallas Living: two vintage stores in Williamsburg that are next to each other. One has a great selection of clothes (loads of jeans organised by size), and a home store with some really unique textiles.

Front Street General Store: this one is in Dumbo, but it is one of my favourite stores in Brooklyn. It also has a mixture of (amazing) vintage and contemporary clothes. They sell all my dream basics, as well as stationery and home things.

PACK

Sneakers for trotting all day, and an extra tote (or two) to lug your wares.
