EAT

The food in Barcelona is unreal. If you’re fond of seafood you will be in heaven.

Most of the produce is local and picked or caught daily. I always prefer to try and eat authentically and hunt out the local gems when I visit a new city, but if you want something a bit fancy pants there are a number of Michelin star restaurants.

Be prepared to eat dinner much later for the best vibe!

Cal Pep – No menu – Sit at the bar and tell them how hungry you feel and the friendly staff will take care of the rest. Try the lemon beer, very festive and refreshing.  Bar Brutal – If natural wine is your jam this place has you covered. The menu is simple but delish.

El Xampanyet – Local hole in the wall. They have the most amazing house made champagne for 10 Euros a pop. Try and squeeze a seat at the bar and work your way through the tapas menu.

Satan’s Coffee – Best coffee in the city and Japanese style breakfast. These guys are purists – don’t go expecting skim milk or decaf.

Cecconi’s – At the bottom of Soho house. Enjoy a martini and bowl of lobster pasta, has a very old world Hollywood vibe about it.

Flax & Kale – Great for a green smoothie fix if you need a little break from bread.

Sangria – Nothing beats an ice cold Sangria after a day of exploring on foot.

DO

S.U.P – Grab breaky at Surf House Barcelona, if you spend 15 euros you can loan a paddle board for an hour. I discovered I was Spain’s worst answer to S.U.Ping but had a hoot doing so.

Gaudi – Check out the various Gaudi buildings which are dotted around the town and are rather marvelous.

Park Güell – Wander around in the sunshine and soak it in.

SHOP

Arm trinkets – You can pick these up all over the city at various tourist stores – party for your arm.

Farmers Market – peruse (and sample) the local produce and enjoy chatting to the farmers.

PACK

I traveled with a large tote bag so packing was restricted but very liberating. I managed to survive with one pair of old Levi’s shorts, pool slides, trainers, a shirt, jazzy dress and Marysia swimwear which doubled as bodysuits.

Bandaids! Keep some in your purse. Barcelona is best seen by foot but be prepared for blisters.

Comfy walking shoes: Hopefully to prevent the need for the aforementioned bandaids.
