Canggu is by far my favourite place to stay on the island, albeit its steady rise in popularity can make it pretty busy during peak season.
A hive of locals, expats and great restaurants, head to Canggu for the surfing and food.
My boyfriend and I stay at The Slow in Canggu, not only is it aesthetically pleasing – concrete, succulents, art and minimalism, the staff are super hospitable and friendly – which is why we keep going back.
Plus, the food is INSANE. Like, so good you won’t even want to venture out to try other dining options.

I highly recommend hiring a scooter. They’re about $7 AUD for a day and are the easiest and fastest way of getting around.
Download Go Jek - it's like Uber. You can order food, scooters, transport, whatever you want and it's life changing. Especially when you're staying in a villa, are hungover or its raining.
Book a Pool Suite room at The Slow coz it's hot and you get your own private pool.

this is hard because there ARE SO MANY PLACES. Bali’s produce is sensational – super fresh and flavorful. There’s also a huge variety of cuisines, too.
CANGGU

Cannellini beans or stir fried rice for brekky, lamb tacos, and Tokyo hummus for lunch and raw tuna rice cracker and curry leaf cocktail for later. Also, go here for coffee and get the house-made cold brew.
Pretty sure this is the only place you can get natural wine in Canggu, if not the whole island. Eat the urchin fettucine and sashimi.
Great for groups and has some super interesting Japanese dishes ideal for sharing.
It’s a beach club, but go for the food. Sit up the front with the fresh breeze and views of the ocean, order a bottle of rose, roasted eggplant, guacamole with wood fired bread and the chargrilled prawns.
Has oat milk! And a seriously good green smoothie bowl.
Head here for Nasi Campur, an Indonesian mixed-platter dish of curry, veg, sambals and rice.

About a 20-30 minute scooter ride from Canggu and worth the trip!
For coffee, head to Revolver or try the coconut cold brew at Sea Circus, grab breakfast at Aussie-owned and always packed Sisterfields.
I usually skip lunch and save myself for devouring dinner at Da Maria - really good Italian, make sure you get the chicken cotoletta and whatever pizza and pasta then dance it all off when they clear out for the DJ. Then head to Biku, a Bali staple to grab a delicious slice of cake from their selection before heading home to eat it in bed in the aircon. You’ll thank me.

Head to Body Works for the Mandi Lulur Exfoliation Massage, it’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience. I would also recommend Spring Spa!
Grab a scooter and head to Bingin’ Beach. It’s white-sandy beach and crystal clear water is a must-see.
Have lunch at Lucky Fish, it’s right on the beach.
While you’re there, head to the Ayana at Jimbaran Bay to watch the most incredible sunset.

It’s hot, humid and pretty much always wet so sandals, linen and swimsuits are the go. As is sunscreen.
